Pfaff, Philipp: Abhandlung von den Zähnen des menschlichen Körpers und deren Krankheiten

Philip Pfaff (1713-1766) is considered to be the founder of German dentistry. In 1756 he published Abhandlungen von den Zähnen und deren Krankheiten, the first textbook of dentistry in the German language. In it he describes, for example, how a wax impression of the jaw can be made and cast in plaster in order to help in the manufacture of false teeth.
After publication of this work, Frederick the Great gave Pfaff the unprecedented title “Court Dentist” as well as “Court Counsellor”.
