Melchior Kirchhofer (1775-1853) arranged the many texts in his collection under headings such as Religion, Household, Friendship, or the Body. The first section of the book with the proverbs in Swiss dialect is augmented with an appendix of explanatory information. This reprint as part of the series Volkskundliche Quellen has a preface by Wolfgang Mieder, evaluating Kirchhofer’s book in the context of 19th-century proverb collections. | |
