Christian Hoffmann von Hoffmannswaldau: WerkeChristian Hoffmann von Hoffmannswaldau (1616-1679) “incorporates the Baroque in his own person... Anyone seeking the spirit of the Baroque must start with him” (K. Wolfskehl). The first complete critical edition of his works will, therefore, not only fill a most conspicuous gap but will also offer a splendid edition, as befits a former President of the Breslau City Council. Volumes I and 11 include the original texts from the oldest printings of the authorized edition of Deutsche Übersetzungen und Gedichte (1679) and all the engravings. Volume III contains the poems published posthumously in other editions·and all the musical settings for the songs. A fourth and supplementary volume presents for the first time all the letters and other writings. All of the volumes are furnished with extensive notes, and access to the latin works is facilitated by translations. | |
