Caroline Freifrau von Wolzogen: Gesammelte SchriftenCaroline von Wolzogen (1763-1847) was highly esteemed as an author by her contemporaries, mainly due to her autobiographical novels “Agnes von Lilien”. In 1796 apart of this work was printed anonymously in the periodical “Horen”, and first attributed by critics to Goethe. Caroline von Wolzogen's lasting significance rests, however, not so much on her fictional work as on her accounts of events in the literary circles of Weimar, with which she was associated for almost three decades. Her “literary legacy”, compiled by herself, includes excerpts from her diaries, as well as a selection of letters from Goethe, Wilhelm von Humboldt, Schiller, Madame de Stael, Johannes von Müller, Wieland and others. With the exception of the novelettes and short narratives written mainly in the last years of her life, this edition presents all printed works of Caroline von Wolzogen. An introduction by the editor, covering the many contemporary and biographical references, will accompany each of the three double volumes. | |
