Leporin, Dorothea Christiane: Gründliche Untersuchung der Ursachen, die das weibliche Geschlecht vom Studiren abhaltenAs early as 1738 the first basic and pioneering work on the problem of equal rights for men and women was presented by Dorothea Christiane Leporin. The first woman to be granted the degree of Doctor of Medicine by a German university, she claimed the right to education for both sexes, saying that mere prejudice kept women from attending universities. Today Article 3 of the Federal German Constitution provides for equality of the sexes. In an afterword Gerda Rechenberg charges that the classification into married and single status hinders women's emancipation. This book is still of contemporary importance, for “the demand /or equality will not be silenced”. | |
