Nathan Chytraeus: Nomenclator latinosaxonicusSince as a native of the Palatinate, Nathan Chytraeus did not have a strong command of Low German, he consulted labourers and old wives among others in compiling his work. This gave him an insight into the sociological – as well as just regional – difficulties in defining levels of a local vocabulary. The Nomenclator was a heavily-used textbook in Low German schools for many decades. | |
