In October 2006, at a formal event marking the retirement of Professor Elmar Mittler as Director of the Lower Saxon State and University Library in Göttingen, the Minister for Science and Culture Lutz Stratmann announced that this project would be supported by the State of Lower Saxony. This enabled the public-private partnership initiative to be realised within a few months.

The Digitization Centre at the Goettingen State and University Library was responsible for the complete digitization of the works and the indexing of metadata, and remains our partner for the continued technical oversight of the digitized works and the running of the website.
